As a community hospital, Goshen General Hospital is dedicated to meeting the specific health-care needs of area residents. As a community leader, the hospital is committed to providing that care in an innovative and dynamic environment. From quality inpatient care to comprehensive cancer treatment service, Goshen General Hospital offers a unique combination of compassion and state-of-the-art care.

Goshen General Hospital’s regular patient satisfaction survey of Emergency Department patients shows that GGH’s Emergency Services rated above average for hospitals of comparable size in several important areas, including waiting time and likelihood of recommending GGH to others. They are continuously seeking to improve the services and care provided in the Emergency Department so that they will not only meet patient expectations, but also exceed them. This philosophy drove the decision to expand the Emergency Department.

The expansion increased the ED space from 7,000 to over 15,000 square feet which will improve patient flow for all patients. The addition included 22 treatment rooms, with specific rooms designed to treat different levels of acuity, or injury/complaint severity. Three fast track rooms are for non-acute patients with colds, sore throats, and minor lacerations. Eleven exam rooms are for the next acuity level and are designed for specific treatments, such as orthopedic, suturing, pediatric and gynecologic. Four rooms are dedicated to trauma patients and the highest acuity level. Four chest pain observation rooms complete the total number.

The new ED facility has improved patient satisfaction by addressing some of the most frequent complaints noted on patient satisfaction surveys:

- Wait time
- Small waiting area
- The perception of delayed treatment with registration before triage

Additional special features of the new ED area include an EMS reporting room, larger physician dictation areas with more privacy, an exam room equipped for decontamination and wall frames that extend higher than the standard for sound control to protect patient privacy. The facility also includes a dedicated ED entrance separate from hospital outpatient and visitor traffic.
