Community Hospitals & Wellness Centers decided to develop an on-site replacement of its existing hospital in the heart of downtown rather than build an entirely new hospital on a 150-acre plot of land it bought north of Bryan in 1998.

The expanded facility will replace an aging center that does not meet contemporary healthcare standards. The plans include phased demolition, renovations, and two 4-story additions to the east and west of the existing hospital, while remaining fully operational throughout construction. The remaining building will then be upgraded to match the standards of the new additions.

Taking into consideration the existing facility and surrounding community while planning an expansion for increased square footage, new equipment, and future flexibility - the outcome being a renewed facility for patient care as well as a prudent use of site and facility resources, which will help strengthen the vitality of downtown Bryan and avoid abandoning a large facility without a viable re-use opportunity.

Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers have chosen a four-phase approach for this project. After demolition, the first construction phase will be the 4-story east wing addition, second will be the main entrance west wing addition and lastly will be the renovation of the existing hospital. In the end, these additions and renovations will create a new 9-bed maternity unit, a cardiac catheterization lab, a new medical/surgical unit, and expanded ER, a new intensive care unit and a new pediatric unit. Food Services will also be expanded, as will the gift shop and public spaces available to families, visitors, and community health and wellness groups.
